Cont’d
Our minister, David Plumb, was on Sabbatical from May 1st until August 1st and we were very fortunate to have Rev’d Barrie Snook take over the reins for those three months. His work both at Weymouth Bay and across the Circuit was very much appreciated
The weekly Church at Prayer and the twice monthly Reflective Prayer sessions have continued. Numbers remain small but those attending feel the benefit of these periods of quiet.
This Summer we have had two very successful Songs of Praise services in Greenhill Gardens. Members from churches across the borough along with passers by have joined together in praise
Our members continue to help with the Monday Fun Club, Messy Church and Tea @ Three at the Circuit’s Westham premises. These activities along with other community activities provide the outreach needed in the Westham area. One of our young members with four friends organised and ran a very successful Summer Holiday Club for children during the school holidays.
Our grateful thanks go to our events organiser for another year of popular and varied concerts. These concerts have become a point of entry into the church for some people and they have since become regular worshippers. As last year, the events team has used their expertise to put on a concert at Portesham to raise funds for their church and to raise its profile in the village. Plans are in the pipeline for similar events for Lanehouse and possibly Broadwey churches.
Regular fund raising for good causes both national and international have continued to take place as well as additional collections for Crisis and East African Famine Relief. The Christmas Shoebox appeal was again well supported by members.
We run a Fair Trade stall at our Friday coffee morning and on one Sunday a month at Weymouth Bay.
Lettings of the premises on both a regular and casual basis continue to provide an income for the church and fulfil a local need. The Portland Singers now use the church for rehearsals and have enhanced Easter worship and led the singing at one of the Greenhill Songs of Praise. We hope to encourage other regular users of the building to take part in future services.
Our hardworking catering team have again provided teas for visiting churches, buffets for family celebrations and refreshments after funerals.
